Drunk driving, fleeing, convicted: Ghetts gets twelve years in prison. What happened that night in London.

British grime artist and actor Ghetts was sentenced to twelve years in prison on March 3, 2026. A court in Great Britain found him guilty of manslaughter. The verdict was announced at London’s Old Bailey. Judge Mark Lucraft also revoked the musician’s driving license for 17 years.

According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on the evening of October 18, 2025. Ghetts was out and about in central London after consuming alcohol. On the way home he drove his BMW M5 through residential areas in east London at over 110 kilometers per hour. According to the court, surveillance footage showed a “horrific series of incidents.”

Fatal hit-and-run

The judge described the video footage shown at the trial as “shocking.” Ghetts ran six red lights, crossed into the opposite lane several times and collided with a motorcycle and a Mercedes.

When he hit 20-year-old student Yubin Tamang at around 110 kilometers per hour in a 30 mph zone, he was thrown through the air and suffered serious injuries. Ghetts continued his journey and drove home without stopping. According to media reports, the victim was taken to hospital but died from his injuries two days later.

In court, Ghetts made a confession and admitted that he had been driving under the influence of alcohol. He reacted in panic and left the scene of the accident. The court considered the combination of alcohol consumption, massive traffic violations and hit-and-run to be particularly serious.

Statements in court

As part of the verdict, according to UK “Rolling Stone” read out a personal statement from the musician that he had submitted through his defense attorney. In it, Ghetts addressed the victim’s family directly. It may be his only opportunity to express his sincere apology. He described his act as unintentional, spoke of deep remorse, shame and responsibility and wrote that he was deeply sorry for the suffering and emotional pain he had caused.

The victim’s mother, Sharmila Tamang, also spoke in the courtroom. She described how her child was the only son in the family and had come to the United Kingdom to study and had a bright future ahead of him. Her child was taken from life by the reckless behavior of another person. She described the pain as immeasurable; her family’s life was changed forever.

Career between music and acting

Ghetts has been a defining voice of the British grime scene for over ten years. He released several successful albums and collaborated with well-known artists such as Skepta, Stormzy, Giggs and Ed Sheeran. In addition to music, he was also an actor in the Netflix series “Supacell”.

At the time of the accident, he had begun filming the second season, which had started about a week before the incident. In the series he played the role of the antagonist “Krazy”. The verdict ends the musician’s public career for the time being.
