In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Uruguay defeated Ghana 2-0 in their third match in Group H.

Uruguay, which won its first victory with this result, finished the group in third place with 4 points and average. Despite being on the same score as South Korea, Uruguay could not enter the top 2 on the grounds that they scored fewer goals than their opponent and were eliminated.

Ghana, which suffered its second defeat, took the 4th and last place with 3 points and said goodbye to the tournament.

In the 19th minute, Ghana won a penalty after the VAR review. Kudus Muhammed remained on the ground after the intervention of goalkeeper Rochet in the penalty area. However, assistant referee Jan Siedel raised his flag because Kudus was offside before the shot.

The referee of the match, Daniel Siebert, gave a penalty decision after watching the position from the screen on the side of the field, upon the warning of the VAR room.

Goalkeeper Rochet snatched the ball by reaching to his left when Andre Ayew hit the ball.

This time Uruguay came very close to the goal in the 23rd minute. Salisu, who intervened in Nunez’s plagiarized shot from the left of goalkeeper Ati-Zigi in a suitable position in the penalty area, did not allow the goal by moving the ball away in the six-pass.

Uruguay scored in the 26th minute. De Arrascaeta, who completed the ball returned from goalkeeper Ati-Zigi with a head shot on the goal line, with a hard kick by Suarez from inside the penalty area, sent the leather ball into the nets and put his team forward: 0-1.

De Arrascaeta, who took the stage once again in the 32nd minute, increased the difference to 2. De Arrascaeta, who met the ball with Suarez’s elegant pass from inside the penalty arc, brought the round leather nets together with the elegant hit he made without waiting in the left diagonal of the penalty area: 0-2.

Rodrigo Bentancur, one of Uruguay’s most important players, had to leave the game in the 34th minute due to injury. Coach Diego Alonso replaced Bentancur with Vecino.

Uruguay went 2-0 in the dressing room.

In the 59th minute attack by Uruguay, after a position in the Ghana penalty area, referee Daniel Siebert made a VAR review for a potential penalty decision. Nunez remained on the ground in a duel with Amartey in the penalty area. Referee Siebert, pointing out that the interference was with the ball, continued the game. Daniel Siebert, who watched the position from the side of the field with the warning of the VAR room, did not change his decision.

Efforts of both teams to change the score in the remaining part did not yield results and Uruguay won the match 2-0.
