Earn money while sleeping? Customers of a dynamic energy contract will receive money this weekend by simply turning on the washing machine or turning on the sandwich maker. The electricity price is negative and that is positive for the wallet.
Between twelve and four o’clock in the afternoon, customers under such a contract receive money if they use electricity. On Saturday it was 32 cents per kilowatt hour and on Sunday it was even 37 cents.
Ilona from Brabant made good use of this on Saturday. In the afternoon, all appliances at her home were turned on. “Even those that weren’t really necessary today, on the most expensive program,” she tells us.
Yet she also finds that a bit crooked. “We all want to move to a sustainable world and we are not going to use sustainable and polluting appliances. But it makes sense if we can earn money from it today, right? Life is expensive enough these days.”
She has a dynamic contract, solar panels on the roof, had the house well insulated and purchased a heat pump three years ago. “We realize very well that this is not for everyone. So I hope that the government will subsidize things like home batteries, charging stations, electric cars and the like for everyone.”
“The steam oven is on to prepare a chicken in four hours.”
Paul also thinks it is an ‘unreal idea’ that you receive money to use electricity. Normally he throws the laundry on a drying rack, but this weekend the dryer will be turned on. “And the steam oven is on to prepare a chicken in four hours. I’m going to iron again with an electric iron. It’s not really energy-efficient living between twelve and four o’clock. That takes some getting used to.”
And Henk from Veghel turned off the heat pump on Saturday night and turned it on again on Sunday at one o’clock in the afternoon. Just like the washing machine and the dishwasher. “I’ll turn the PV panels back on tonight when the negative current is over. Until then, do a lot of washing and drying.”
