Sören Waerenskjold won the third stage of the Germany Tour from Arnsberg to Kassel. The Norwegian, who is about the overall victory of the tour, benefited from the disqualification of the Dutchman Danny van Poppel.
On the 175 -kilometer -long stage from Arnsberg to Kassel, on which over 2,800 meters had to be completed, a large top group around the top teams UAE and Visma / Lease A Bike formed 80 kilometers before the finish line, which brought their lead to the finish line.
At the finish sprint, the overall leading Sören Waerenskjold was the first to venture into the wind, but was brought to the last few meters by Bora professional van Poppel in a hard finish. But he had violently left his carpent in his sprint and was later disqualified by the jury.
Extremely tight tip
The Germany Tour really does not lack tension this year. The tip is extremely close together, before the start of the stage, Kevin Castillo from the Movistar team had 42 seconds on the overall leader. That meant: The outlier group, into which the three points in front of Marco Haller (Tudor Pro Cycling Team) and Jannik Steimle (Q36.5 per cycling team) jumped with Enzo Leijnse (Team Picnic Postnl) at the beginning was not far away from the field.
The world -class team of UAE for the German Nils Politt highlighted in the field in which heavy terrain – it went up and down in the first half of the Sauerland in the first half of the race – many professionals were soon unable to connect.
Exciting fight for the mountain rating
The three outliers were soon placed. Her flight ended 81 kilometers before the finish, after all, Leijnse had previously won all three mountain ratings, so he had collected a total of nine points in this special classification. In this discipline Miguel Heidemann (Rembe – Rad -Net) and Vinzent Dorn (Bike AID) with ten points each remained in the front. Anyone who will win this competitive price will be decided on Sunday at the last stage when a mountain ranking is carried out with three, two and one counter.
On this day, however, Uae and Visma / Lease A Bike around Wout van Aert continued speed. Top sprinters such as Jonathan Milan or the German Phil Bauhaus were left behind, the overall leading Sören Waerenskjold (UN-X Mobility) was only difficult to stand in front and claimed his position before the Jhonathan Narvaez (UAE), which was only one second.
Van Poppel will disqualified
The action was dramatic three kilometers before the finish, where a bonus print was waiting for the drivers. Waerenskjold attracted, but was spurted by Narvaez. The two leaders were virtually at the same time.
At the few meters to the finish, the top field was reorganized, under the leadership of Wout van Aert, the fastest men stormed towards Kasseler Friedrichsplatz and the finish line. Waerenskjold, who was all alone in the top group, looked for the flight to the front and seemed to be able to win the stage. Van Poppel pushed forward from his back, but the Dutch left his travel line and thus blocked Brennan’s Visma sprinter.
Lipowitz works for Van Poppel
Also at the front of Florian Lipowitz. The German Shotionststar, who had fallen the day before, was able to compete on the 3rd stage despite various injuries and once again played an important helper role for Bora’s Sprinter Danny van Poppel. He was left behind in between and had to be brought back to the top group by Lipowitz and colleagues.
Last stage with many decisions
At the end of the tour, you will go from Halle an der Saale to Magdeburg tomorrow. The profile of the stage is relatively flat, the sprinter will probably persist. The German Assse Phil Bauhaus and Pascal Ackermann will have a lot to show the taillights as possible to the strong competition. Because everything is so very thin in both the overall and mountain ranking, additional voltage is also guaranteed.
