Germany, topless women in the pool: genderless choice

THEhe sports committee of Goettingen, in central Germany, has taken a historic decision which is already causing discussion. Starting from May 1st, on weekends, in the city pool all swimmers will be allowed to swim without a top.

It is the first in Germany to allow women to enter a public swimming pool topless.

The reasons behind the Goettingen swimming pool

With this decision, Goettingen becomes the first German city to take a clear stance towards gender identity within public sports facilities. This choice, however, did not come without a particular historian.

In fact, some time ago a controversy had arisen between a bather and the sports committee, after the members of the latter had asked her to cover her chest to enter the pool. She, however, had declared that she identified with the male gender.

Thus, the Goettingen sports committee actually decided to allow women to be able to swim topless, like men.

A gesture that he wanted to be an opening towards the great debate now present on the issue of gender identity. But that some citizens did not appreciate, considering him not brave enough.
