The German Judo Federation (DJB) is still waiting for the first medal at the European Championships in Sofia.

After the two fifth places achieved by Paulina Starke and Mascha Ballhaus on Friday, none of the German judoka made it past the third round on Saturday.

Lukas Vennekold and Igor Wandtke failed in the weight class up to 73 kg. Tim Gramkow lost in the class up to 81 kg later European Champion Tato Grigalashvili from Georgia.

On the last day of competition on Sunday, the women’s medal hopes rest primarily on Luise Malzahn (up to 78 kg), who is aiming for the first title in her tenth participation in the European Championships.

For men, the brothers Karl-Richard (up to 100 kg) and Johannes Frey (over 100 kg) have podium chances. Altogether the DJB is represented with 15 fighters in the Bulgarian capital.
