Sales in German retail fell again in April, partly due to weak business at gas stations. However, with a decline of 0.3 percent compared to the previous month, adjusted for calendar, price and seasonal effects, the decline was slightly lower than experts had expected. They had expected retail sales in April to fall by 0.5 percent in real terms compared to Monday.
In addition, the decline in March was not quite as high as initially reported. In April, gas station sales fell 4.0 percent month-on-month as a result of the war in the Middle East. Food retailers, on the other hand, recorded growth.
