The French Open starts in Paris in a few days. Eva Lys is also there. The 24-year-old has struggled recently, but is hopeful about the tournament

Positive signals from her body, confidence before the start in Paris: Eva Lys believes she is on the right track after a difficult phase and is hoping for good performances at the French Open. “Right now the results are not my priority, but simply feeling better about my body again,” said the German hopeful: “And I notice that things are getting better and better on the pitch and I’m sure the rest will come too.”

Lys has lost a few places in the world rankings after her long-term knee problems and is ranked 81st at the start of the tournament. She is expected to play her first duel on the clay courts she loves in the French capital on Monday against Croatian Petra Marcinko.

In the medium term, Lys from Hamburg wants to fight her way back into the “Top 50, Top 30,” as she said herself. However, her knee injury still has slight after-effects. Some of her movements are “not yet super natural,” said Lys, who is regularly slowed down by her autoimmune rheumatic disease (spondyloarthritis): “But I really felt a good breakthrough in training last week, that I’m slowly getting back to my forehands, to the style of play that I had before.”
