The German ski jumping team flew to the podium in the second mixed competition of the season. Katharina Schmid, Philipp Raimund, Selina Friday and final jumper Andreas Wellinger reached third place in Willingen. However, it was not enough for a win like at the start of the season in Lillehammer.

The DSV quartet collected 988.8 points on the largest large hill in the world. “It is not celebrated as big as a victory, but I think we’ll be toast,” said Friday in the “ARD”.

The superior victory went to Norway (1070.8) off Austria (1031.4). Fifth place went to Slovenia, since world champion Timi Zajc was disqualified and thus the discussion about the suits of the Slovenes received new food.

While the recently weak Pius Paschke had to watch, the German team showed an overall solid performance. Already after the first round, the German selection was in third place in its parade discipline, which was no longer in danger after the break.

“Bitter aftertaste” because of disqualification

Slovenia was initially in the lead, then Zajc was disqualified. Spicy: Zajc had won in Oberstdorf a week earlier when his teammates Anze Lanisek and Lovro Kos had been disqualified. National coach Stefan Horngacher then spoke of a “bitter aftertaste”. If “two are disqualified and one wins, that’s a bit strange,” said the DSV coach.

Germany had won the mixed at the start of the season in Lillehammer, and on February 8th the World Cup general rehearsal in Lake Placid (USA) follows. The DSV quartet had recently won the title five times in a series. The Mixed Olympic premiere, on the other hand, was disappointing in 2022, after Schmid’s disqualification there was only ninth place.

On Saturday, individual jumping for women (12.30 p.m.) and men (16.00) are scheduled for, on Sunday only men (4.10 p.m./each ARD and Eurosport) are deployed.
