At just 26 years old, Justin Lisso is calling it quits. But his decision also has dramatic reasons – he was seriously injured just a few months ago.

The German ski jumper Justin Lisso ended his career at just 26 years old. In November 2025 he tore his cruciate ligament for the second time – just two months after his comeback from his first serious knee injury.

Lisso took to Instagram with these words: “It’s not easy for me to say goodbye, but I’m leaving with a smile and with great anticipation for what’s to come.”

He suffered his first cruciate ligament tear in June 2023 in a training fall. He returned at the end of September 2025 – the next setback followed shortly afterwards. Before the injury, Lisso was on the verge of breaking through to the top of the world. In March 2023 he finished 13th in Oslo and 15th in Lahti – his best World Cup results.

This is the second such case in a short time for the German Ski Association. In 2023, former junior world champion David Siegel also retired at the age of 26 after serious injuries.
