Next difficult day for Germany’s ski jumper: At the first of two in Sapporo (Japan), the DSV eagles in the early Saturday morning (15.02.2025/CET) of the world leaders flew far behind.

The best German in the home win of the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi was Pius Paschke in the 23rd place. Andreas Wellinger was 24th, Stephan Leyhe came in 29th place. Adrian Tittel and Felix Hoffmann had not reached the final.

Pressure too big?

It was the next low for the DSV team that has been in a descent since the four-hill tour and simply cannot find its way back to old strength. The time -out at Paschke didn’t help either. The 34-year-old waived Lake Placid and only returned in Japan. The inconsistency has nevertheless remained. After 131.5 meters (place twelve) in the first round, Paschke crashed evil with 119.5 meters in the final.

Andreas Wellinger also stepped on the spot again and, as 24, only ended up in mediocre. As so often lately. On the idiosyncratic ski jump, Wellinger was missing the right trick and maybe a little luck that it takes, at least after the jump. Without wind support at the table, it becomes even harder than on other ski jumps.

After 125.5 meters and 18th place in the first attempt, Wellinger got very lousy wind in the final. The jump was completely screwed up. With just 113 meters, the Ruhpoldinger fell back seven places and let his frustration out in the run.

Japan celebrates Ryoyu Kobayashi

Local hero Ryoyu Kobayashi, who laid the foundation for victory with an extraordinary first jump. Kobayashi did everything right, sailed to 137 meters in difficult conditions and was more than ten points ahead of the competition at half -time. The local hero could no longer be taken. At 136.5 meters, he won the victory with a 19.7 point lead.

Behind it raged around the places on the podium. Jan Hörl catapulted himself to second place, the Slovenian Domen Prevc prevents an Austrian double podium and pushed himself to third place before Daniel Tschofenig.

Leyhe trembles into the final

While the Austrians perform, the DSV team has cat jammer. Stephan Leyhe, who had lost his World Cups and currently benefits from the breaks of the established, was far from his achievements in Sapporo from the past few years. The Willinger trembled to the final at 118 meters as 29.

Tittel and Hoffmann miss the second round

The appearances by Adrian Tittel (112.5 m) and Felix Hoffmann (105.5 m) were not enough for the final. Tittel did not caught the jump on the difficult ski jump and did not fly. When it was Hoffmann’s turn, the upper aus was gone from the first phase, even though he got bonus points for the wind, the jumper from the SWV Goldlauter Haidersbach were eliminated.

Ski jumping OPI Kasai hopes for second chance

Japanese ski jumping legend Noriaki Kasai wanted to return to the World Cup stage in his home country. The first of two attempts went wrong. Kasai – now 52 years old – failed in qualification. The next qualifying chance is available on Sunday (16.02.2025). Japan’s “flying dinner” is far from being enough and hopes for a ticket for the Nordic Ski World Cup (February 27th to March 9th in Trondheim).

Geiger and Raimund stay at home

Karl Geiger and Philipp Raimund certainly have their place in the World Cup team, and the two DSV eagles did without the trip to Japan. Instead, they train in Oberstdorf and try to get in a World Cup form away from the World Cup hustle and bustle.
