German insurer Munich Re canceled Nord Stream 2 contract

The German reinsurance company Munich Re told RBC that it had decided to cancel the Nord Stream 2 contract.

The company noted that the decision to cancel the Nord Stream 2 contract was made public back in February 2021. Then Munich Re stopped insurance of Nord Stream 2 amid the threat of sanctions.

Munich re Chief Executive Officer Joachim Wenning confirmed the cancellation of the Nord Stream 2 contract at a press conference on February 23. Bloomberg. He noted that the client would not accept the cancellation of the contract. Wenning did not disclose the reasons for this decision.
