The German authorities do not intend to supply weapons to Ukraine. About it stated German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes.

“The federal government has long had a clear position <...> – we do not deliver weapons to crisis zones in order to prevent further escalation there,” Lambrecht said.

Lambrecht noted the commitment to a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine within the Russia-NATO Council and the Normandy format.

Germany has more than once denied direct arms supplies to Ukraine or prevented the transfer of weapons to the country by third states. So, in April last year, Berlin did not agree to transfer mine-clearing equipment, corvettes, elements of anti-ship systems and air defense systems that Kiev requested for the defense of the Black Sea coast, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported. Angela Merkel, then German chancellor, told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that arms supplies were “out of the question,” Bild newspaper sources said.
