Genoa (dpa) – Despite the relegation from Serie A, the German coach Alexander Blessin is allowed to stay at CFC Genoa. The confirmed sports director Johannes Spors of the German Press Agency, one day after the decisive 0: 3 defeat at SSC Naples.

“Alexander Blessin remains the coach here, we will also continue with the technical staff,” said the manager. The project to rebuild Italy’s oldest football club, which started during the season, is now set to continue in Serie B.

Genoa can no longer leave the relegation zone on the last day of Serie A and has to return to second division for the first time in 15 seasons. A catastrophic first series, the mistakes and missed opportunities this season, including three changes of coach, took their revenge.

Born in Stuttgart, Blessin came from KV Ostend in the Netherlands in January. The team improved significantly under the 48-year-old and sparked new euphoria in the port city. Last weekend Genoa beat Juventus Turin 2-1 in added time and could hope for rescue – in the end in vain.
