The German biathlon star Philipp Nawrath is looking forward to the spectacle in Munich’s Olympic Park. At the same time, the focus is already on the 2026 Olympics.

Biathlon season preparation is entering its hot phase. There will be an important benchmark in Munich this weekend. The so-called Loop One Festival is taking place in the Olympic Park for the first time. Philipp Nawrath is looking forward to the spectacle.

“I think it’s a special thing to come to the Olympic Park during the summer preparation and to complete a race there. It’s a special thing for everyone,” said the 32-year-old in an interview with the International Biathlon Federation IBU.

“I’m most looking forward to the fans, I think there will be a lot of them there,” revealed Nawrath. He has also seen mountain bike races in the Munich Olympic Park. “The atmosphere there is really nice. It’s a great place, with a great sporting history,” recalled the German ski hunter.

Biathlon: The 2026 Olympics are special for Nawrath

On Sunday, the biathlon stars will fight for victory in the super sprint in the hot preparation phase. The 2025/26 World Cup season starts on November 29th in Östersund, Sweden. The highlight of the winter is undoubtedly the 2026 Olympics in Italy. The biathlon competitions are held in Antholz.

For Nawrath, the upcoming Winter Games have a special appeal. “Four years ago in China it was so far away from my family and friends. Now it will be the complete opposite, starting almost in my hometown. My family and friends can be there and follow the competitions,” said the veteran happily.

Nawrath is still waiting for an Olympic medal in his biathlon career. At the recent World Championships in Switzerland, the 32-year-old won the bronze medal in the mixed relay and relay.
