Janina Hettich-Walz celebrated a real dream comeback at the German Biathlon Championships. The ski hunter goes into the Olympic winter with an ambitious goal.
Last season, Janina Hettich-Walz followed the biathlon through her pregnancy as a spectator, now the 29-year-old is working intensively on her return to the World Cup after the birth of her daughter.
At the German Biathlon Championships on the Arber, Hettich roller recently triumphed in singles and sprint. In the persecution, she only had to give up Franziska Preuss.
With a view to the upcoming biathlon season, Hettich-Walz follows an ambitious plan. “My goal is to take part in the Olympic Games and win a medal there. I clearly have that in mind,” revealed the German ski hunter to “Sport1”.
The winning of the silver medal in the singles of the 2024 Biathlon Championship in Nove Mesto “showed her what is possible and that I have the potential. If everything fits, it can go far forward,” said Hettich-Walz.
“Additional motivation” for biathlon return
The DSV athlete herself surprised that things went so well for them again for them.
Hettich-Walz revealed: “In training, I noticed that I was in good shape, and I thought that I might be able to run for the podium.
The biathlete ordered at the same time: “For me, the German championships were part of the World Cup qualification. For Franzi [Preuß]Selina [Grotian] and vanessa [Voigt] not. So I had to get a little more offensive. “
“I wanted to see if I can run again-at least that seems to work for now. We have a lot of strong girls in our own ranks that have shown in the past that they are great internationally. You shouldn’t hide behind them. And after a long break, it is nice if you can orient yourself on the other. That gives a small additional motivation,” said Hettich Walz.
