‘Gerard Joling will ruin his career if he joins forces with Gordon again’

Gerard Joling will ruin his career if he joins forces with Gordon again, says media journalist Marcus den Blanken of the AD. “It would be good for Goor, but Geer shouldn’t do it.”

There has been speculation for a while now about a return of the TV show Joling & Gordon Over De Vloer, but that appears to be almost impossible. Gordon left SBS 6 with a ticket and the boss of RTL 4, Peter van der Vorst, does not seem to be the type to take many risks when it comes to reckless stars. And so fans have to make do with DVDs for now.

No success?

Manuel Venderbos is one of those fans, he admits in the AD Media podcast. He watched some old episodes last weekend. “My 15-year-old daughter really thought: what kind of cross-border stuff is this?”

TV columnist Angela de Jong then laughed: “Yes, that’s it, haha.”

Media journalist Marcus den Blanken: “That’s the pity: since he stopped working with Geer & Goor, Gordon hasn’t made very many fun things of his own. That program with those 100-year-olds was still okay.”

Angela sternly: “The first season.”

More of a sidekick

Marcus thinks Gordon is especially fun in the supporting role. “Actually, as soon as he is subordinate to the format, where he is allowed to do excesses, then he is fun, but if he has to carry the entire show… He is more of a sidekick actually.”

He should no longer become Geer’s sidekick, Angela advises. “I also think that too much has happened in Gordon’s life to take him seriously in a television program. Some things you just have to let it be known in the past and then just pick your DVDs off the shelf and have a good laugh. It won’t be that fun anymore.”

‘Don’t do it, Geer!’

Gerard in particular has to be careful, Marcus thinks. “Geer shouldn’t do it anymore. It would be very good for Gordon to work with Gerard Joling, but for Gerard Joling it is… Then he will ruin his career.”

Angela agrees. “I think so too. Gerard Joling should absolutely not do it. Geer has much more to lose than Gordon has.”

Free roll

Gerard must cherish his current position, Marcus thinks. “He’s on The Masked Singer now, he can do whatever he wants. Not everyone likes Gerard, but even when he shouts the most rabid things, he gets away with it. If you start working with Gordon, I’m afraid it won’t work out well for him…”
