Actor George Takei has called his ex-Star Trek colleague William Shatner a “quarrelsome old man”. In an interview with the “Guardians” the 85-year-old spoke about his relationship with his co-stars in the science fiction series “Spaceship Enterprise”. He recalled having “great camaraderie” on set — save for one “prima donna.”

He has formed “lasting friendships” with Walter Koenig (Chekov), Leonard Nimoy (Spock), James Doohan (Scotty) and Nichelle Nichols (Uhura). Takei held back in the interview about his relationship with Shatner. He accused him of using his name for public attention. Therefore, Takei does not want to continue talking about this “quarrelsome old man”.

Shatner had previously spoken about his ties to the “Star Trek” crew in mid-November. The 91-year-old told The Times that he now knew that his colleagues spoke badly of him for public attention. “Sixty years after an incident, they’re still doing it. Isn’t that a bit strange? It’s like an illness,” Shatner said.

“George never stopped dragging my name in the dirt”

In the interview, Shatner also explicitly commented on Takei: “George never stopped dragging my name in the dirt. These people are bitter. I have no more patience with them. Why believe people who are consumed by envy and hate?”

Takei and Shatner co-starred in the science fiction classic Starship Enterprise from 1966 to 1969. Shatner played the role of spaceship captain James T. Kirk. Takei sat at the navigation desk as helmsman Sulu.
