George Michael’s long-lost concert film “The Faith Tour” has been restored and is coming to theaters. An album with 18 previously unreleased recordings will also be released.

The film’s press release states: “‘George Michael: The Faith Tour’ is a tribute to ambition and fearless artistry at its peak – and a moment when the then 24-year-old George Michael changed the course of his career.”
A film that was never shown
The material was recorded in 1988 at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy during George Michael’s world tour. The film, which has never been shown to the public until now, has now been restored and remastered – and will soon be released under the title “George Michael: The Faith Tour”. The video material was created on 35mm film tape over the course of two nights using over 14 cameras. The film is directed by Andy Morahan and David Austin, two of the singer’s longtime collaborators.
The concert film will also be accompanied by a short film by photographer Mary McCartney, which includes the soundtrack of a George Michael interview as well as behind-the-scenes footage of the well-known “Faith” music video.
Accompanying album with unreleased recordings
An album entitled “The Faith Tour” will also be released along with the film. The LP will feature 18 unreleased recordings from Michael’s time with Wham! as well as as a solo artist. Both the album and the concert film are scheduled to be released this year, but a fixed release date has not yet been set for either.
The “Faith” tour: beginning of a solo career
Michael’s “Faith” tour was the former Wham! member’s first solo tour. It lasted nine months, from February to October 1988. The accompanying album became one of the best-selling albums worldwide and also won the Grammy for Album of the Year.
The British singer was introduced by the duo Wham! known, which he founded together with Andrew Ridgeley. After the breakup, he started his solo career, in which he continued to be very successful. He died at the age of 53 on December 25, 2016.
