Genoa, via Blessin: now Gilardino ad interim, then three names

Only the official announcement is missing, but the club has decided to sack the German coach. Ranieri, Bjelica and Semplici are vying to replace him

Another night of doubts and perplexities, but this time Genoa has now decided to sack Alexander Blessin – two points from the last five games – who now seemed to be unable to get out of a worrying negative situation also in terms of the standings. Blessin was already at risk after the away match in Perugia, but then surprisingly he was reconfirmed. The new misstep at home with the Citadel, and the subsequent dispute, had made one think of an imminent farewell. Instead, surprisingly yesterday Blessin himself led the unloading session after the match. But, evidently, even to those within the club who continued to defend him, the situation must have seemed too complicated by now not to think about a change in progress. The CEO Blazquez is in contact with the American ownership, and he will now be responsible for a very delicate decision. The former Alberto Gilardino, current coach of the Genoese Primavera, will manage this phase while awaiting the choice of the new coach: today he will lead the afternoon training session in Pegli and on Thursday he will be on the bench against Südtirol.

THE ALTERNATIVES

Then, we will think about the future. To the names already in contention of Bjelica (formerly Spezia) and Semplici, the prestigious one of Claudio Ranieri was added yesterday, undoubtedly the most authoritative candidate, in terms of charisma and experience, to take back a team that needs above all to regain self-esteem and an acceptable game.
