Genoa player Manolo Portanova sentenced to six years in prison after gang rape | Foreign football

Genoa midfielder Manolo Portanova has been jailed for six years for his involvement in a gang rape last year. This is reported by Italian media.

Portanova (22) had already been placed under house arrest in June 2021 after being charged with the gang rape that took place in May 2021 in the center of Siena. According to media reports, Portanova’s lawyers would appeal the verdict.

A source told Reuters news agency last year that the then-21-year-old woman had reported to police that she had been raped by four men in an apartment on May 31 after dining at a restaurant. Portanova, whose uncle was sentenced to the same sentence, has always denied the charges against him. One of the other accused was a minor and must appear before a juvenile court.

Portanova, who must pay the victim compensation of 100,000 euros, has played 12 more times for Genoa this season pending his trial. That club plays at the second level in Italy.
