Berlin (dpa-AfX)-commuters in the capital region must adapt to significant impairments in the course of the general renovation of Hamburg-Berlin. Regional transport is becoming as limited as in decades, said Patrick Fiedler from the Berlin-Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB). The problem is “that we have a really, very large area in the area where we can no longer provide rail offers for this period”.
Specifically, this means, for example, that the journey from Wittenberge in northwestern Brandenburg to Berlin Central Station will no longer take an hour and a half – as is currently the case with the RE8 – but three and a half hours. “This is the bitter truth,” said Fiedler. It will take three hours from Perleberg to Berlin. It is currently almost two hours in regional traffic. “We are aware that we demand a lot from our passengers here,” said Henriette Hahn from Deutsche Bahn. That is precisely why you want to inform early and comprehensively.
The journey between Hamburg and Berlin takes 45 minutes longer
The important long -distance traffic route between the federal capital and Hamburg will be blocked for nine months from August. The construction work is part of the general renovation, with which Deutsche Bahn basically wants to modernize busy corridors and thus want to ensure more punctual trains. Among other things, more than 180 kilometers of tracks and around 200 course are to be renewed between Hamburg and Berlin.
In long -distance transport, the trains are diverted via Stendal, Uelzen and Salzwedel. This means 45 minutes more travel time for travelers. In regional traffic, more than modernity is to be used. But: “The buses are much slower than the train,” said Fiedler./wim/dp/jha
