Gen Z can hardly find entry-level jobs due to corporate withdrawals

Generation Z graduates are entering an increasingly challenging and volatile job market. They face a discouraging lack of career options immediately after graduation. This difficult environment is largely due to widespread corporate withdrawals. In response to growing economic uncertainty and pressure to control costs, companies in various industries, including fashion and retail, are implementing hiring freezes. They are increasing the number of layoffs and, particularly critical for entry-level employees, severely reducing or eliminating traditional entry-level positions and internship programs. A complicating factor is the rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technologies. They are starting to take on tasks that were previously done by junior staff, which further reduces the need for many young professionals.

As a result, a significant proportion of college graduates are forced to pursue significantly different career paths than they expected. With the immediate shortage of clerical and professional positions, many are having to explore and accept alternative paths to finding employment and financial stability. This includes accepting jobs in the retail and service sectors. Often these are positions for which they are overqualified but which provide immediate income. Others shift their focus entirely to trades, such as electrical, plumbing and construction. These areas remain in high demand and are less vulnerable to disruption from AI. This represents a pragmatic step away from the saturated office environment.
