Ski jumper Karl Geiger is satisfied after the World Cup in Engelberg, he has achieved his interim goal. In his sport.de column he now looks at the big highlight of the season. The Four Hills Tournament has its own rules, according to the DSV Adler.
Luisa makes her rounds carefully. A little wobble here and there, a curious balancing of one’s own boundaries. We are in the Oberstdorf ice rink and our daughter is having fun trying out the ice.
After all the World Cup hectic, I started to calm down, take some distance and regenerate over the Christmas days. On Sunday late at night we returned from the Swiss World Cup in Engelberg, which I found very atmospheric given the conditions.
After placing 5th and 9th in both competitions, my mood was also lifted; My goal of achieving top ten placements was achieved and thus an important interim step. Overall, the jumps were very good, step by step we are moving in the right direction.
The mood in the team is also very good, Pius Paschke’s successes and Andi Wellinger’s strong performances inspire and motivate everyone; When you have the best with you in training every day, it has an influence on you – it’s fun to be part of it all.
Oberstdorf is now the place – the place to celebrate Christmas in peace, in the middle of the family, and above all to rest mentally, to put the cell phone far away and Oberstdorf is also the place to put the finishing touches to the training, to become smaller again and turn the screws to optimize the flight.
Oberstdorf is also the place where the Four Hills Tournament starts, which the fans are looking forward to with excitement. After the season so far, the expectations in the German team are high, very high. But everyone knows that the tour has its own laws and its own dynamics. Four locations, four jumps, travel in between, the media – everything on the tour is a little different than on “normal” World Cups – the mental disposition simply has to be right for a jumper who wants to perform on the tour. My stance is clearly defined. I want to show good jumps, slowly optimize the system, not force anything with impatience and hecticness, but attack with motivation. Starting the tour on the home hill is certainly a reassuring circumstance.
Now the “mental” battery is being charged. I’m looking forward to the quiet days in Oberstdorf before the hustle and bustle starts.
We pack our things and go home. Oberstdorf is in the snow. Christmas can come!
Kind regards
Karl Geiger
