Geiger misses the podium – Kobayashi triumphs

After the turbulent qualification, the start of the tour in Oberstdorf was under special observation. And here, too, there were a few surprises that also affected the DSV-Adler.

Karl Geiger took fifth place at the start of the Four Hills Tournament and thus missed the podium. First was the Japanese Ryoyu Kobayashi, who delivered the best jump with 141 meters in the second round. But: Geiger is “only” three meters behind Kobayashi. The gaps at the top were relatively small.

Nonetheless, the overall World Cup leader from Oberallgäu was a little thoughtful at the ARD microphone about his own performance: “I didn’t have the fine edge in the second run. But I’ll put it this way: It’s okay. The tension was today but a bit higher than expected and for that it was quite good and I’m satisfied. “

Places two to four went to Norway. Halvor Egner Granerud was second, Robert Johansson third. Marius Lindvik landed in fourth place. With Markus Eisenbichler (seventh place) and Stephan Leyhe (ninth place), two more DSV-Adler reached the top 10.

Before that, there were already a few surprises. The three-time tour winner Kamil Stoch from Poland missed the second round, with Anze Lanisek (Slovenia) in 23rd, Kilian Peier (Switzerland) in 14th and Stefan Kraft (Austria) in 12th place, some of the favorites for the tour victory .

DSV-Adler Severin Freund missed the second round because he was disqualified. You can find all information about this here.

The qualification continues on December 31st in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Geiger’s hill there is a bit more than the one in Oberstdorf. About the role as a hunter, he said: “The starting position is still good and we will continue to talk in Garmisch.”
