GAZPROM share: GAZPROM suspends gas supplies to Italy for the time being – No schedule for repairing Nord Stream leaks

The Russian company GAZPROM announced that it could no longer deliver gas through Austria, the Italian supplier Eni announced on Saturday. Russian gas normally arrives at, and is distributed from, the Italian-Austrian border town of Tarvisio in Italy.

The Austrian Ministry of Climate Protection and Energy announced in Vienna that GAZPROM had not signed the necessary contracts. It is therefore about technical adjustments in the market model, which come into force every October at the beginning of the gas year and must be contractually agreed beforehand. Therefore, the necessary registrations for the transport of Russian gas to Italy for Saturday were not accepted by the Austrian side, it said.

GAZPROM, in turn, blamed Austria for the rejection of the so-called transport nominations in the Telegram news service. “GAZPROM is working together with the Italian buyers to solve the problem,” it said.

Austria itself continues to receive Russian gas, confirmed the Ministry of Climate Protection and Austrian Gas Grid Management AG, which controls gas flows in Austria.

By the time war broke out in Ukraine, Italy had received around 40 percent of its gas from Russia. Then the government in Rome and the semi-state corporation Eni concluded agreements with a number of other countries – such as Algeria – in order to minimize dependence on Moscow. In recent months, it has been said that Italy only gets around 25 percent of its gas from Russia. In the past few days, the delivery quantities had fallen sharply.

GAZPROM throttles gas supplies to Moldova – threatens to stop them

Russia has cut gas supplies to the former Soviet republic of Moldova, which lies between Romania and Ukraine, and has threatened to shut them down altogether. The Russian energy company GAZPROM blamed Ukraine for Saturday’s drop on its Telegram channel, which refused to “conduct Russian gas through the Sochranovka distribution station.” According to GAZPROM, the daily delivery volume is now 5.7 million cubic meters. The Republic of Moldova, which is striving to join the EU, has ordered 8.06 million cubic meters a day.

In addition to the failure of a pipeline in the Ukraine, which has been known for months, GAZPROM refers to Chisinau’s outstanding gas debts in its justification for the supply cutback. Moldova is constantly in arrears with its gas payments. “At the same time, due to the fault of the Moldovan side, no agreement has yet been concluded on the settlement of old debts for gas supplied in recent years. For this reason, GAZPROM has the right to terminate the current contract at any moment,” the company threatened .

According to GAZPROM, the former Soviet republic’s gas debts, including penalties, total $709 million. Chisinau disputes the amount and insists on a review.

GAZPROM spokesman before UN on leak repair: no timetable foreseeable

According to the Russian state gas company GAZPROM, there is currently no foreseeable timetable for repairing the leaks in the natural gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and 2. The group has started to look for “possible solutions to make the system work again,” said spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov on Friday via video link before the UN Security Council in New York at a debate on the leaks requested by Russia. However, the duration of this repair cannot be estimated at this time. From a technical point of view, the task was “very overwhelming”. Such leaks have never existed before.
