Doesn’t matter under Kwasniok

Of all the players who played for 1. FC Köln this season, Jusuf Gazibegovic had the shortest playing time. The right-back only played 22 minutes for Effzeh – not enough for the demands of the 25-year-old, who was signed for 2 million euros almost a year ago. The “Kicker” and the “Kölner Express” therefore report on a possible departure in the winter.
According to the first-mentioned medium, Gazibegovic, who was the first transfer from Cologne after a registration ban of a year and a half, is allowed to leave the promoted team again. However, the prerequisite for this is an adequate transfer that puts at least part of the sum paid back into the cash register. A loan is therefore not an issue. In order to promote a change, the 23-time Bosnian international has already hired a new advisor. According to the “Express”, he is said to have already made representations to management to explore his client’s prospects. Gazibegovic has a contract with FC that runs until 2028.
In his first six months in Cologne, Gazibegovic made twelve appearances, but after promotion he hardly played a role under coach Lukas Kwasniok. He was only part of the matchday squad four times and was only substituted once against SC Freiburg. As a result, its market value recently fell from 4 million to 3 million euros. Kwasniok relies primarily on summer newcomer Sebastian Sebulonsen, but the actual winger Jakub Kamiński has also been given preference over Gazibegovic at right back. Alessio Castro-Montes can also hold this position.

If Gazibegovic leaves: new attempt at Paderborn’s Obermair?
It is unclear whether 1. FC Köln would bring in a replacement if Gazibegovic were to leave in the winter. The candidate could then again be Raphael Obermair from SC Paderborn, as “Bild” loosely speculates. Kwasniok had already wooed his ex-protégé publicly in the summer, but he was not allowed to follow the SCP coach to Cologne. The two clubs are said to have been around 700,000 euros apart.

The 29-year-old played most of the games of his career under Kwasniok. While he is currently deployed in left midfield for the second division league leaders, the 44-year-old also uses him as a right-back, among other things. In addition, Obermair’s contract situation suggests a change by summer at the latest, then his working paper with the East Westphalians ends. From January 1st he can negotiate with interested clubs and sign with them for the next season. In the winter, Paderborn could receive a small transfer fee, but would also need a replacement for an absolute top performer.
