In theory, the championship in Croatia is still available for Hajduk Split, but the belief in the traditional club with five points behind the leaders Rijeka is low in two outstanding games (for the table of the Supersport HNL). Either way, you will have to look for a new trainer for the coming season. Gennaro Gattuso wants to resolve his contract after just one season, the Italian announced his farewell at a press conference and shot sharply against the club management. In the meantime, an Austrian well-known from the Bundesliga is traded at the Croatians: René Maric, assistant coach Vincent Kompanys at Bayern Munich.
Although Split could make points well with Rijeka at the weekend in direct duel, Gattuso expects his team against his team with “whistles and protests”. Hajduk is waiting for a championship for 20 years, with Gattuso the course for the long -awaited title should be set last summer. “I know that the fans don’t want Rijeka or Dinamo. They are angry, you have seen that the police guarded us during training. We have to deliver our best game,” the world champion from 2006 attested.
Between Rijeka and Split, the series master Dinamo Zagreb also ranks in the table, four points separate the third -placed Hajduk from the reigning Doubles winner. Regardless of the outcome of the season, Gattuso made it clear that he would no longer sit on the bench in the coming season despite the ongoing contract. “I’m definitely going. I have another year with Hajduk, but I am working with my lawyer to make my last game.” The fact that he would also do without a severance payment illustrates how serious he is. “I don’t want money for work that I did not do, but only for those I did.”
After the end of his active career, Gattuso had initial trainer experiences in Switzerland at FC Sion and then worked in Italy, Greece, Spain and France. At his last two stations FC Valencia and Olympique Marseille, his term of office was short -term, and it was over after a few months. In Croatia, the former midfield worker of AC Milan held a season, but the working circumstances would move him to pull the ripcord.
“I would need two hours to explain everything,” said Gattuso when asked about the motives for his decision. Hajduk is “a big club in a small city” and this is “difficult. The passion of the fans touched me and torn me. Hajduk is a lifestyle and a club with a glorious story, but also one who has not won anything for a long time. I don’t want to go into detail, but it is the club management that bothers me. I have never seen a club in Europe. A different leadership should not work.
He was unable to look for the conversation last year in the event of problems because nobody was available as a contact person at the management level. At the same time, Gattuso criticized the wealth of power of the Hajduk supervisory board: “It is difficult for me to understand that the supervisory board has more authority than the president and that the club is being managed. I am disappointed with difficult everyday life. I don’t want to polemize, but it is difficult to work if you know that nothing good, the team cannot strengthen or improve the player.”
Hajduk Split: Ex-sports director Kalinic also criticized club-does Maric come?
The trainer thus put into a notch similar to the recently the retired sports director Nikola Kalinic. After his release last autumn: “The people who lead Hajduk have no idea about Hajduk – I am thinking of the supervisory board. Neither they love the club nor do they have any idea of football.” He had already registered in office after his first week “that it is not in the right direction. The processes take too long, too many people decide. There are too many parasites in the club and so it will not go on with Hajduk.” Hajduk is an association “which 70 percent of people in Croatia cheer”, which is “managed amateurish.”
While the mood in Split is also cloudy in the face of the Gattuso statements in the season finale, according to reports, a successor is already being considered: René Maric from FC Bayern Munich is traded as a candidate. The former Co. of RB Salzburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Borussia Dortmund and Leeds United had moved to the Munich team last summer and still has a contract until 2027. According to Croatian media, first discussions are said to have already been held. For the 32-year-old, it would be the first stop as head coach, a qualification for international business in the coming season is already safe and could lure the Austrian.
