Caroline Garcia has made it to the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the first time in her career. At the US Open, the 28-year-old Frenchwoman defeated the American crowd favorite Coco Gauff in two sets on Tuesday evening: 6-3 6-4.
17th-seeded Garcia had lost the previous two encounters against 12th-seeded Gauff. But at the Arthur Ashe Stadium, she was clearly the best player this time. In fact, she hasn’t given up a set this entire tournament.
Garcia will face Ons Jabeur on Thursday, the Tunisian who reached the final at Wimbledon. Jabeur won her quarterfinal match 6-4, 7-6 (4) against Ajla Tomljanovic.
