Garage punk and garage rock by The Heck, Cloudsurfers and Hands Off will fill ‘t Schienvat in Erica on Saturday

There is even interest in Japan for 60’s punk band The Heck from Klazienaveen.

The Heck, Cloudsurfers and Hands Off will make their appearance on Saturday in ‘t Schienvat in Erica during The Bake Shop Presents: a program in which young Dutch musical talent takes center stage.

The Heck from Klazienaveen deals in sixties pop, consisting of singer/guitarist Henri Sulmann (former member of the Keefmen and Miracle Men), bassist René Katerbarg and drummer Erik Berends. Their debut album was released a few years ago on the English label Dirty Water Records, while successor heck yeah!! appeared on the German Soundflat Records. Both records are full of razor-sharp and super-catchy pop, served with the power and intensity of punk.

But Sulmann and his followers also love Dutch beat bands such as The Outsiders, Q65 and – closer to home – Cuby and the Blizzards from their early days. ,,I think it’s very nice when the music is primitive,’ says the singer/guitarist. Achieving as much as possible with as few resources as possible. That you can still hear the rawness and the emotion. That it chafes because it is just not perfect yet.”

Cloudsurfers became the most booked band of the Popronde last year with their debut album. Their garage punk is inspired by bands like Ty Segal, Oh Sees, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

The duo Hands Off – consisting of Jans (guitar, vocals) and Tim Daniël (drums, vocals) – is rapidly inspired by riot grrrl bands from the nineties.

The series of performances starts on Saturday at 8.30 pm. More information is on the The Bake Shop’s website
