Two friends, two symbols of Italian cycling. This is Filippo Ganna and Elia Viviani, who shared the stage of the Trento Festival together at the Filarmonica, which was packed for them. “We met at the 2016 World Championship in London on the track”, they remember in unison. They won 3 Olympic medals each, countless road titles and more. “I find the greatest adrenaline when I have to lead the way for some teammate or put them in the best position for the climb”, says Ganna about the underlying theme of this year’s Festival. “Sanremo, Flanders and Roubaix: in 2026 I would be happy to win one…”, says the 29-year-old Piedmontese from Ineos-Grenadiers. While Elia Viviani’s immediate competitive plans are well defined: “The Giro del Veneto, on Wednesday in my Verona, will be his last road race (he closes at 36 after 90 successes on the road, ed.). Then I will go to the Track World Championships in Chile with ambitions of a medal in the elimination, and to the Six Days of Ghent on the track from 18 to 23 November for the farewell”. And then? “I will stay in cycling.” It is more than a promise, also because the movement cannot afford to lose someone like Elia…
