ROma, 17 Jul. (askanews) – A rare oil painting by the Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi, who is believed to have been damaged by a Hindu nationalist activist, was auctioned in the United Kingdom for 152,800 pounds (approximately 176,000 euros).
The 1931 painting by the Anglo-American artist Clare Leighton is considered the only oil portrait for which Gandhi has laid, according to the painter’s family, who owns the painting since his creation, and according to Bonhams, where he was auctioned online.
