While FC Bayern is still negotiating with Leroy Sané about a possible contract extension, rumors are circulating on the obligation of a new foreign striker. Cody Gakpo from FC Liverpool is also said to have been targeted by Munich. Former Bayern professional Mark van Bommel now explains what makes the 26-year-old.

The former professional of FC Bayern and today’s football coach Mark van Bommel keeps big pieces on his compatriot Cody Gakpo.

“Cody does his job very well in Liverpool and also with our national team,” the 48-year-old told “Bild”: “He is a very fast outdoor car player who does great individual campaigns. The special thing is that he also has a very good conclusion. He is really dangerous!”

The former captain of the Munich team added: “In addition to his football qualities, Gakpo is Dutch-and Dutch were always good at Bayern. But I’m not in Bavaria’s scouting team …”

Van Bommel strives for coaching comeback

The Dutchman Van Bommel once played for the German record champion between 2006 and 2011, in 2013 he ended his career as a player. He then switched to the sidelines, in 2018 he took over a professional team at PSV Eindhoven for the first time. In the 2021/22 season, van Bommel also tried VfL Wolfsburg, but was released there after only a few months.

After two years at the Belgian Royal Antwerp club, Van Bommel has been waiting for another commitment for around a year. “I would like to attack again soon if there is a good option,” said the ex-Munich.

Meanwhile, rumors about a possible change from Cody Gakpo were recently brought in by “Sky”. The Dutchman had switched from PSV Eindhoven to FC Liverpool in January 2023 for 42 million euros, where it has been on 128 competitive games (41 goals, 17 templates) since then.

Under team manager Arne Slot, the 38-time international won the championship title in the Premier League for the first time in the past season.
