G7 countries want Russia to extend grain deal | Abroad

“Everyone agrees on the need to extend the grain deal,” said the diplomat, who wished to remain anonymous. The G7 foreign ministers met in Münster, in western Germany. The US diplomat stressed that the G7 countries — Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States — support the efforts of United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He also wants to “convince Russia to extend the agreement”.

Grain exports from Ukrainian ports resumed on Thursday, following Russia’s return to the grain deal signed in Istanbul at the end of July. The agreement expires on November 19. Since August 1, the deal has allowed the export of 10 million tons of grain and other agricultural products, alleviating the global food crisis caused by the war in Ukraine.
