G2 wins group victory in ESL Pro League

G2 Esports narrowly secured group victory in the Counter-Strike league ESL Pro League. G2 won 2-1 against Complexity Gaming, but was on the verge of elimination at one point.

“What a game. We barely escaped again,” wrote G2 announcer Rasmus “HooXi” Palisgaard Nielsen on X, formerly Twitter. “We weren’t ready from the start and now we have to fix that for the playoffs.”

With wins against Lynn Vision and Virtus.pro, G2 secured the playoffs early. In the upper bracket final, Complexity, previously unexpectedly victorious against Cloud9, became a big challenge.

The North Americans initially took the lead, but blew a 15:10 lead on the second map and lost in overtime. G2 won the third map clearly with 16:4.

Cloud9 didn’t win in the rest of the group phase and lost to Eternal Fire on Saturday. The Turkish team also beat Team Liquid in their last game and is in the playoffs of a major tournament for the first time.
