Further background to Walter’s exit revealed

Because promotion was in jeopardy in the third year under his leadership, Tim Walter had to resign from Hamburger SV. Now further background information on the 48-year-old’s HSV exit has been revealed.

While Hamburger SV continues to look for a coach after Tim Walter was fired on Monday, “Sport Bild” revealed what exactly was Walter’s undoing at the Rothosen. Sure, HSV is once again “only” in the relegation zone, but the gap to second place is only two points, with 13 games still to play. So what motivated those responsible to part ways with Walter?

Above all, the HSV bosses are no longer convinced that Walter is still the right man for the coaching position. Many of the team’s performances under the 48-year-old were too wild, and confidence that the coach could change anything about it waned.

According to the report, those responsible around sports director Jonas Boldt and professional director Claus Costa repeatedly tried to talk to Walter, asking him to adapt his style of play in order to be more stable. But that failed.

It is said that even if Walter had been successfully promoted under his leadership, he would not have had a free pass for the Bundesliga, precisely because there was no conviction that he could put the HSV team on track for the upper house.

Recently, Walter is said to have lost support in the dressing room, as “Sport Bild” further reports.

Accordingly, the goalkeeper change in the game against Hannover 96 (3:4) – veteran Daniel Heuer Fernandes had to go out, the rather inexperienced Matheo Raab was given a chance – is said to have not been well received within the team.

HSV: Walter fired by phone call

The concern of many professionals: If Walter drops number one, what about the other leading players? Fear arose in the locker room.

In the end, the HSV bosses pulled the ripcord around Boldt. The sports director is said to have informed Walter of his expulsion by telephone on Sunday. Walter was staying with his family in Munich.
