Fortuna Düsseldorf had to accept a setback in the promotion struggle on match day 24 in the 2nd Bundesliga. The Rhinelander lost 1: 2 against Greuther Fürth. Fortuna brought an unnecessary penalty to the losing road. It was the first defeat in 2025 for the team of coach Daniel Thioune.

“We lost because we just played football very badly”said Thioune at the Sportschau microphone. In particular, the coach complained that Düsseldorf “Not so aggressively participated in the game” have. Fürth’s coach Jan Siewert was with the “Implementation of the plan” his team very satisfied. “That was a totally mature performance of us.”

The Fortuna took the lead in the 8th minute with the first chance of the game. Isak Johannesson can pull up on the sixteen and fled the ball to the far corner worth seeing. But the joy of the Düsseldorfers about the lead did not last long. In return, Noel Futkeu initially had the chance to equalize, but his volley acceptance was deflected and the ball flew past the goal.

The subsequent corner then brought the goal to 1-1 (9th). Felix Klaus, who still played for the Fortuna in the first half of the season, continued the corner by hoe to the penalty point, from there Branimir hit Hrgota in the bottom of the goal.

Oberdorf goal does not count

In the 31st minute, the ball fidgeted again in Fürth’s goal. But the goal from Tim Oberdorf, who hit a corner after a corner, did not count. Referee Eric Weisbach apparently evaluated his arms against Noah Loosli as a foul. A tough decision, the Var does not take it in.

Both teams acted from a safe defensive after the entertaining start. Until the break, there was no big chances in a balanced game. Even in the second half, not much happened at the gates on the lawn. Both teams lacked the means to develop goal opportunities.

Green meets the second penalty

After 70 minutes, an unnecessary penalty whistle sounded from Düsseldorf’s point of view. Keeper Florian Kastenmeier had run around his former team -mate Klaus Ungestäu on the goal line. Kassenmeier made his mistake well again – was even able to hold on Julian Green’s 911. However, Kastenmeier had moved from the goal line too early, the penalty had to be repeated after the video check. On the second attempt, Green scored confidently at the bottom left of the 2: 1 (75th).

Kastmeier took the penalty on his cap in an interview with the sports show. “I’m trying to block Felix, he comes under me, I slip on him, of course it is rarely stupid”according to the keeper to the game -decisive scene.

Fortuna only had a good chance to equalize after the deficit. Vincent Vehij came to a conclusion from around seven meters, but Loosli reacted at lightning speed and blocked the shot. With an overall strong defensive performance, Fürth brought the lead over the finish line.
