The Ad Rossoneri: “Max struck me the knowledge of Milan and how much he kept on this club. Ibra and Moncada very important resources”
“This is not a revolution.” Giorgio Furlani tells the Milan 2025-26 project and says it will be “a change”. As if to say: we correct the shot, but not everything is to be thrown away. Furlani met some journalists together with the new sports director Igli Tare and explained the sense of the Rossoneri summer: “We do not need a revolution, the goal is to aim to be competitive to aim to win trophies”. The first two pillars of the change are, evidently, Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri, the two men of experience called to manage the reconstruction: “They are the first two purchases”, confirmed Furlani. And again: “We changed the setting of the sports area, we realized that it would have been important to have a figure like Igli, and in particular. I am convinced that with him we made the right choice, we work in the same direction”.
Max the winner
–
Yes, but how did it happen? Furlani explains: “Igli, even before starting, told me ‘Allegri is the right man’. We focused on the coach with more trophies in the history of Italian football, a coach with a story of victories and a story in Milan. We wanted someone with experience in Italian football”. The first steps are encouraging: Furlani and Allegri confronted each other, Allegri brought his expert vision and Furlani accepted with the pleasure of giving more space to the coach on the market. A year ago, with Fonseca, it hadn’t happened. “Di Allegri struck the knowledge of Milan and the championship – explains Furlani -. He has enthusiasm and knowledge of Milan, the company, the team. He brings us great energy and desire to do well”.
Allegri and the blitz in Lugano
–
Tare tells one behind the scenes of the negotiation with Max, makes it clear how the speed has been decisive. “After my arrival there was the need to intervene immediately with a new coach and from the first contact I understood that Allegri kept this company a lot. He had a profound knowledge of the problems, from there I understood his great interest. Giorgio and I made a blitz in Lugano, we met him for a long time and we did that Max in 48 hours accepted”. The relationship is now close: “I hear Allegri 4-5 times a day, it is aware of everything. We are talking about the characteristics of the players and the opportunities that are born daily. We said that the priority have certain roles, then we will see the rest”.
The structure: Ibra and Moncada
–
The structure of the club thus changes. Furlani always has the last word in decisions. Tare is the man of negotiations, in constant contact with Allegri. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the representative of the property. Geoffrey Moncada has Cape Scout functions and for Furlani remains an important reference in the evaluation of the players. The CEO clarifies everything with a couple of clarifications: “Zlatan has never been to the organic of the Milan company. It remains a very important person in our project, such as operating partner of Redbird. He is a person that we Milan players love, as a player he brought us back to winning, played in Holland, Italy, Spain, France, England, the United States: he has a great wealth of skills. As for Moncada, it has been with Milan for 7 years, it is a very important resource, the technical director remains. He knows players and identifies talents, in France and in the world, like few or none. It remains central to the Milan project “.
Maignan and the no to Chelsea
–
The balance of course is not simple and the sale of Reijnders, who in the last year had conquered San Siro, proves it. The rules of management, of Elliott first and then Redbird then remain: the idea of focusing on young profiles and with controlled engagement, the balance of budget, the desire to create wealth from the commercial area to invest it in the team. “Football is central. All the economic resources generated are invested for sports performance, but there are stakes – says Furlani -. We must decide how to allocate our resources, because the money does not rain from the sky”. Mike Maignan is a good example. Furlani does not explicitly quote Chelsea but the reference is clear: “We had the interest of an English club and we did not consider it interesting. Mike was very correct and like him his agent: he gave openness to both solutions, even to remain at Milan”. And so, Maignan remained and maybe he will be the captain. AC Milan thus tries to leave, with him and with teamwork: “There is no division between a sporty soul and the rest of the club, we are one”, states Furlani. Nice challenge. This long, strange summer of change can continue.
