Tra the ways in which the Ravenna-based company SICIS interprets the mosaic, the jewelery stands outbased on the complex micromosaic technique. We were in the SICIS Village in Romagna to talk about this aspect of the artistic productions that are now officially arriving at Milan Design Week.

«The micromosaic – explained ad askanews Gioia PlacuzziCreative director of SICIS Jewels – is an ancient technique from the 18th century, famous at the time among the nobles and originally made in the Vatican territory. It’s a mastery that had been lost and we decided to bring it back into vogue in a modern waycombining the 18th century technique with precious materials, semi-precious stones and three-dimensional shapes.”

A work of art in 500 hours

On the company campus the jewels are made with a dedication that goes well with the attention to detail required by international stages such as Fuorisalone. «Every micromosaic artist to create a piece of high jewelry – added the director – it takes from 200 to 500 hours of processing. Every color you see is a different yarn, a combination of minerals and stones that are brought together to bring the image to life.”

“Elements”: the sensorial journey at the Fuorisalone

On the occasion of the Salone del Mobile in Milan, SICIS wanted to create an exhibition space that communicated directly with the public of the Milan Design Week. «We designed the installation Elements – concluded Gioia Placuzzi – which represents the union of the four natural elements: air, fire, earth and water. It is a sensorial journey between jewelery and interior design, a 360 degree combination of our worlds found in Fuorisalone its maximum expression.”
