Pretty exaggerated, what is there to complain about after the Liverpool game.

We’re getting pretty off topic, so this is my last post on the goalkeeper question. If there is a reply, I’ll say right now: Agree to disagree.

Regarding your statements: I think it’s clumsy to say, based on a game, that everything about Marek Rodak is gold. I’m happy that Rodak played well against Liverpool. But I didn’t just accompany Fulham since the weekend. I’ve been a fan for over 15 years, following Rodak’s career since he played in U19 and U21. That’s why I say emphatically: It’s not exaggerated. We’re talking observations that I’m not the only one who’s made over the years. By the way, quite obviously also in the various coaching staffs under which Rodak has already played. There was always doubt.

With Rodak you’ve been promoted twice now. After the last ascent they tried areola (cucumber goalkeeper). The result is known.

Are we here at the hidden camera? It pains me to have to have such a polemical discussion and to see how Areola is dubbed in this way – when it was mainly due to him and his performance that in 2020/21 there was a real chance of staying in the league for so long because he was after In the opinion of all experts and according to the relevant parameters, played an excellent round. In all modesty: Areola was one of the best goalkeepers in the league in the season in question. Your own opinion is granted to you from the heart, but it is fact-free nonsense.

On Rodak: I felt after the 2020 promotion that he deserved a chance to continue being No.1. Two years later I say: Better not this time. Unfortunately, there was no further development for him in these 24 months, rather the past season was nature that one had to worry about. He did not play flawlessly and made some serious mistakes in long-range shots, in processing crosses and in communication – see for example the goal against Villarreal. In Fulham’s situation, however, a goalkeeper is needed who can influence games positively, who wins points and not only with a little luck loses none. If you have the chance to add a seasoned, internationally experienced keeper like Bernd Leno, you have to seize it. I don’t want to talk too much about him and the, in my view, disturbingly bad image that he apparently has in parts of the German community – English Arsenal fans can’t stop raving – that would really lead too far. In any case, the following applies very clearly: Leno > Rodak.
