Füchse captain Paul Drux does not see a clear favorite in the top game of the Handball Bundesliga.
“Kel has been having a very good season so far, but we’ve been doing a good job so far. We’re equal there and don’t need to hide at all,” said the national player. On Sunday, the Berliners will receive THW Kiel in their home Max-Schmeling-Halle (2 p.m. / Sky).
Drux therefore goes into the duel against the record champions with a lot of self-confidence. Because the 27-year-old sees more quality in his own ranks this season with the newcomers Mathias Gidsel, Max Darj and keeper Viktor Kireev. “You can tell a difference in training compared to last year. Of course you can do more then, especially since we’re almost full,” said Drux.
That’s why the captain, who came from his own youth, also believes that it’s the highest-quality Berlin team since he’s firmly established among the pros. “In terms of individual strengths and breadth, it’s definitely the best team,” he said. And this increased quality also has a mental effect. “It also gives you more self-confidence in the game, even in difficult phases,” he said.
Especially since the foxes showed last season that they can annoy Kiel. There was a draw in the home game, in Kiel it was even possible to win for the first time. “That’s when we realized that something is possible,” he reported.
