German dominance in the Champions League: Defending champions SC Magdeburg and Füchse Berlin also won their sixth premier class game and remain the only teams without losing a point.

Magdeburg defeated RK Eurofarm Pelister from North Macedonia 36:26 (19:13), Berlin won 32:31 (16:12) against Hungarian handball record champions Veszprém KC.

Magdeburg’s Ómar Ingi Magnússon was the outstanding player of the game with ten goals. Keeper Sergey Hernandez also delivered a strong performance with 15 saves. In the first half, the defending champions, who have not yet suffered a defeat in the Champions League and Bundesliga, lacked the last bit of precision against the seventh-placed team in their Group B.

In the second round, coach Bennet Wiegert’s team finally got rolling and secured a two-point lead over their pursuers FC Barcelona with a clear victory of twelve points.

Meanwhile, Fabian Wiede was apparently seriously injured in the Füchse’s narrow away win. The 32-year-old backcourt player had an unfortunate appearance in the early stages, immediately grabbed his knee and left the floor on a stretcher to applause from the Hungarian audience. However, Wiede’s teammates knew how to defy the early shock.

Above all, Füchse keeper Dejan Milosavljev led the Berliners to victory with a total of 16 saves, while Danish world handball player Mathias Gidsel was the best thrower on the Füchse side with six goals.

The reigning Bundesliga champions have “opened the gap” they had hoped for in Group A, as Füchse coach Nicolej Krickau said before the game, maintaining a two-point lead over pursuers Aalborg HB with twelve points from six games, while Veszprém suffered their first home defeat of the CL season and is now six points behind the leaders.
