During a special works council last Friday, employees were informed of the planned layoffs. “We were told that there were 27 employees, but we were not yet given the distribution of profiles or departments,” Decock said.
A meeting will take place on Monday, June 8, between the unions and management to determine what the concrete plan is. “It is our job to ensure that the affected employees receive appropriate compensation and are also guided to new work.”
To startle
According to the union, Ardo wants to maintain its competitive position in an ever-changing market. “Efficiency gains need to be made and every department was put under a magnifying glass to see where things could be done more efficiently,” says Decock. “From there, that number of layoffs came.”
According to the unions, the news came quite unexpectedly. “We knew something was coming, but we didn’t know that it would be of this magnitude,” he said. “This is a large number and we did not expect that. It is a bit of a shock.”
