From rotten molars to Brown Gold: residential shopping complex near ovonde Klazienaveen

On top of the roof there will also be a roof garden, which will serve as a communal outdoor space for the residents. The part on the Dordsedijk side will be fitted with display cases, where the South East Drenthe Historical Association can hold expositions. Not a dead wall, but a bit of life in the brewery, according to Ten Hoor. A footpath will be constructed in front of the ‘exhibition space’.

Underground parking

Around the complex there will be an additional 120 parking spaces for Aldi visitors and residents. Underground parking has been considered, says alderman René van der Weide. The increased construction costs make this too expensive, so parking on the street has been chosen.

“Almost twenty years ago, this rotten tooth was discussed in the city council,” he recalls. Sticking to an underground solution could cause more delays. “And that’s what it’s been like here for years.”

East side

Real estate manager Justin Tans of Aldi is also pleased with the new place. The Aldi is currently located on the east side of the village. Nearby are also the Jumbo, the Boni, the Plus and the Lidl. “There is no supermarket on this side of the village. A supermarket in their neighborhood would be a welcome addition.”

It’s too early to say what will happen to Aldi’s old location. Alderman Van der Weide is already sorting for demolition and housing construction. “But that’s part two of this puzzle.”

The surrounding neighborhood has been informed with a letter about the plans for the area. “Soon the most beautiful building in Klazienaveen will be here”, Ten Hoor looks ahead.
