FC Eindhoven won the first three competition matches, but they were unable to do so in the last ten matches. The Eindhoven team lost 0-1 to VVV-Venlo on Friday evening and are in a disappointing eighteenth place in the Kitchen Champion Division. Trainer Maurice Verberne remains hopeful that the dramatic series will come to an end. “But this should not become a weekly discussion group.”
How positive the atmosphere was after FC Eindhoven was at the top, how different is the feeling now after eight defeats and two draws. It also didn’t work against VVV-Venlo, even though the field play was better than in recent weeks.
“This is disappointing and it was not necessary. Compared to the last matches, we showed more in the build-up, had more opportunities and were good defensively. But due to a poorly cleared ball we were awarded the 0-1,” says coach Maurice Verberne.
The trainer sees a group in which self-confidence has dropped to rock bottom. “We do everything we can to break the rhythm. For example, on the field we regularly opt for other forms of training, such as a run together. But we also started playing padel with the entire selection. In this way we try to provide distraction. We also talk to each other a lot. But ultimately we have to see for ourselves how to run on the field and experience success.”
“I still have confidence in it.”
Verberne is not the type to give up and feels that a turnaround is possible. “I still have confidence in it, yes. Especially with what I saw against VVV-Venlo. It looks a bit more stable and three important players returned from injuries.”
At 29 years old, Sven Blummel is one of the experienced players in the selection. The Schijndel resident is confident that the victories will come again, starting next Wednesday evening in the cup against Second Divisionist Hoek.
“We have enough quality as a selection, we showed that earlier this season. Our heads went down for a while after another defeat, but we quickly recovered. We are in an unpleasant phase, but we will get through this if we give everything.”
