Last year both Bakkum and Camping Geversduin financial damage due to flooding. Now it looks rosier for the campsites in the dune area.
Research into dune fires
“We raised a number of places, but we expected that water would still be there now,” says camping manager Peter. “That is a nice windfall and the nice weather of the past few weeks also creates an increasing number of bookings.”
The extreme weather of recent years is a reason for the Safety Region Noord-Holland Noord and the campsite to investigate possible solutions. For example, a fire extinguishing water supply at the campsite is looked at. That might be used as a recreational lake by camping guests.
Camping open again next week
With the investigation, both parties want to be prepared as well as possible for the future. “We just have to take into account the changed climate,” concludes Peter.
For now the camping boss is happy with the dry and sunny weather. “We really had a difficult spring last year and now you see that the reservations are already attracting.”
