“That was a tough time and I had to take immunotherapy,” says Erik. “I had no energy at all, but I eventually recovered.” Erik’s illness had a major impact on the family with two teenage children. “The flag was very different then, but we struggled through it,” says an emotional Amanda.
Keep the mill running
Succession is also already being considered. Son Kevin has his miller’s diploma, but does not follow in his father’s footsteps. Daughter Rebecca, the driving force in the bakery, is also not done yet.
“She has one foot in it, but we don’t want to push her. It’s fun, but the profession also has a downside. We especially want the mill to keep turning in the future. I’m not worried about that for the time being,” says Erik. “We are especially proud, especially with our team. You can’t do anything on your own.”
