In addition to the many hours of sunshine in Spain, Schouten says it is also warm in terms of finances. “It is really good actually. I have nothing to complain about. Otherwise you don’t make such a step either. It is not the fat pot like in Saudi Arabia that you might have hoped for, but we can’t complain.”

At Terrassa FC, Schouten will play at the fourth level of Spain. Something that was the former player of FC Volendam, Cambuur and Willem II looked for a bit strange. “At the beginning I was a bit wary to play at the fourth level. But when I saw where the city was and that some other Dutch people played football, then it started to itch,” said Schouten, who refers to the presence of Joey Sleegers and Old Telstar players Quinten van den Heerik and Sem Dirks.

Tiki-brancha

“I also called Tom Boere, an old teammate, who played here last year. He said that I would probably have to get used to many things. That’s how we play on artificial grass and he also said that football is very different than you are used to in the Netherlands. It’s not Tiki-Taka what you might expect in Spain. It’s all different.”
