You probably know the police station on Burgemeester Wegstapelplein in the Stadshart. This agency has been there since 1981, so for more than forty years! What most do not know is that before that time there have been four other locations where there was a Zoetermeers police station. Indebuurt dived into the archives and found nice, old pictures.

Dorpsstraat

In the village of Zoetermeer, the police station at Dorpsstraat 57 was at the beginning of 1900. The office was in a house and Zoetermeerders could also go to the post office there. The building was demolished in 1955.

Police bus

In the 70s, the police drove through the streets in a DAF. The Zoetermeer police bought the bus from the ANWB that once used the bus as an office. The Zoetermeer company Lamboo converted the DAF into a moving police station. The neighborhood teams used the vehicle during the week in a different neighborhood.

Willem Alexanderplantsoen – Van Stolberglaan

In 1972, Zoetermeerders were able to go to the police station at the intersection of the Willem Alexanderplantsoen with the Van Stolberglaan in the Driemanspolder district. In the 1980s, the police teams moved to the new office in the Stadshart. On December 12, 1980, a 36-year-old Rotterdammer stuck it vacant building in the fire. The police arrested the man, but half the building was destroyed.

Julianalaan – Bernhardstraat

In the 1950s there was a group office of the National Police Corps at Julianalaan 21 in Zoetermeer. Police officers lived in the two adjacent service houses on the corner of Bernhardstraat. There were also two cells in the group office. Nowadays you will find a physiotherapy practice in this building.

Burgemeester Wegstapelplein

The current police station can be found together with the fire station on Burgemeester Wegstapelplein in the Stadshart. The new building opened in 1981, then the construction of the Stadshart began. The police were planning to move to a new location in the city because the current building is outdated. After research, it turned out that the current place is not that bad at all. There a contractor starts in the short term with the renovation of the police station and the fire brigade.
