Herald Adolfs, who produces the ratings hit Make Up Your Mind together with Carlo Boszhard, is stunned by a huge blunder by NRC. “And they just leave it online!”
Make Up Your Mind, the TV program in which Dutch celebrities are transformed into drag queens, is back on the tube. After the season kick-off last Saturday, NRC also wrote one piece about. The TV critic on duty only made a big blunder, because it turns out that he accidentally watched last year’s season kick-off (!).
Big blunder
The NRC reviewer somewhat caricatures the TV show: “The more manly the man, the more wooden, muscular, bearded and heterosexual – the more groundbreaking the metamorphosis is considered by the guessing celebs and the jury of drag queens.”
Then Victor Reinier, who appeared in last year’s season premiere, is cited as an example. “He may look like an ‘old parakeet’ as drag queen Vikkie Vuzz, but that ‘men like him’ dare to publicly show their feminine side is seen as a boost for everyone who is ‘different’.
The appearance of farmer Bertie in the same episode is also cited.
Herald amazed
Herald Adolfs, Carlo Boszhard’s friend, thinks it’s unprecedented. He wrote in his Insta stories a few days ago: “The NRC writes a review about last weekend’s TV and reviews last year’s episode of Make Up Your Mind 😱.”
To add yesterday: “NRC is aware that they reviewed last year’s first episode instead of this year, but the erroneous review is still online.”
Amended
NRC has now adjusted the review: Victor is still cited as an example, but it now says ‘last season’. What that has to do with last weekend’s television is a mystery. The reference to farmer Bertie has completely disappeared.
The newspaper writes at the bottom of the article: “In an earlier version of this article it was not sufficiently clear that Victor Reinier was a candidate in the 2022 season of Make Up Your Mind. That has been adjusted.”
In other words: the reviewer on duty has been sleeping terribly.
Earlier time
It is also striking that Make Up Your Mind can already be seen this season at 8 p.m., instead of the less child-friendly 9:30 p.m. A win for the queer community? “When I see how well we score in the commercial target group, I think this is first and foremost a business decision,” says Carlo in Veronica Superguide.
He continues: “It is a shame to broadcast it at a time when fewer people are watching. Personally, I don’t see Make Up Your Mind as a victory for emancipation or anything like that. It’s just a great program.”
